Starbuck is a fictional character appearing in the Battlestar Galactica franchise. The character originated in the 1978 television series, portrayed by Dirk Benedict as Lieutenant Starbuck, a charismatic, skilled, and often reckless Viper pilot.
The character was reimagined for the 2004 reimagined series, with Katee Sackhoff taking on the role. This version of Starbuck, Lieutenant Kara Thrace, retains the pilot skills and rebellious spirit, but is portrayed as a complex, troubled woman haunted by her past and grappling with issues of identity and destiny.
